Amihan Philippine Dance Society is a non-profit organization which aims to showcase and preserve the cultural heritage of the Philippines through dances, songs, music and costumes. It also aims to present various dances in different forms, in various interpretations and in unique artistic presentations.
The ensemble also aims to present the latest dance interpretations of pop and modern music as well as create vibrant movements in choreographed steps of ballroom, Latin, Hawaiian and jazz beats.
Amihan is open for invites and requests for performances which can add entertainment, enjoyment and visual delight to the general audience.
To promote Filipino culture through dance, music and song featuring native costumes and artifacts, showcasing the talents of volunteers from the local community.
To showcase various steps, interpretations and choreography of different native dances from the Philippines and other countries including modern, pop and jazz.
The gentle breeze of monsoon rains in the Philippines give new life and bloom to vegetation in many parts of the country. This is called “amihan’ as spoken in the vernacular language. It is also defined in many ways. A mythological deity, a name of monsoon and a big entertainment studio.
In the burgeoning population of North Texas, amihan is a new ensemble, a first of its class and a society of dancers culled from various terpsichorean skills of different genesis. Folk dances from various regions of the Philippines, Latin steps from South America, ballroom sways from Europe and modern interpretation of various music and cultures from different countries.
Nine men and women from different strata of professional industries banded together and ‘amihan-ed themselves’ and gave dancing a new meaning to what is called “ artistic interpretive folk dancing”. A nurse, a lawyer, a businessman, a chef, a Physical Education graduate, a schoolteacher, a retailer , a homemaker, and a promising social content creator.
